A recessive gene has some effects on the phenotype only in its homozygous (2c / 2 copies) form, the heterozygous (1c / 1 copy) form is carrying the gene but is not distinguishable from a normal phenotype. Both parents must carry the gene to produce a visual animal.

An exemple (Blizzard) of a recessive gene inheritance probabilities:

het Blizzard x Normal

=

50% het Blizzard, 50% Normal

(as we cannot differenciate the het from the normal, all of them will be poss het Blizzard)
